   I own the GE Profile Opal 2.0 w/ side tank. It makes fabulous ice. However, it is a pain to operate (whomever designed the controls needs to go back to school), clean, and every odd cycle, the motor will seize and make a horrible screeching noise. In short, the quality of the Opal 2.0 is poor. When it works just right, the ice it produces is amazing. But, I’m positive it will fail long before it should and at ~$600, that’s a lot to pay for poor quality.

   I purchased the Frigidaire EFIC237 Countertop Crunchy Chewable Nugget Ice Maker as a gift for a vacation home where I frequently stay. Right out of the box, it was pure simplicity. Intuitive controls, pretty quiet (it is an ice maker, so it will make noise), and quickly (faster than Opal 2.0) makes a lot of good ice. The ice is not quite as soft as the Opal 2.0. However, for $329, it’s a quality machine that makes good crunchy ice. I’d recommend this machine. Wish the GE Opal 2.0 would redesign their machine to operate like the Frigidaire.

   I have had this ice machine a year and a half and i adore it. makes consistently good chewy ice. Yes, it makes a thunk as it churns out every chunk, but mostly ignorable. Doesnt take long to have enough for a full Yeti (or your choice of convenient recepticles). The ice is great, (I say this next part quietly so as not to invoke the opposite), never had one issue with it. Reccomend a thousand times and wish i had gotten it sooner. OH and i also paid ALOT more than this current price, so what are you waiting for? Swoop one up today!

   What a gem I didn’t know these existed till YouTube I saw it had to get this machines my kids lovveee it so do I I know summer it will be lit lol right now we use 1 refill every other day and it fills within 7to nine minutes super fast ice is great just like sonic etc. Love It Grateful we eat on this ice all day my daughter literally sit by the Frigidaire and eat ice she like it so much the kids fill their water bottles for school and it’s great worth every penny save me sonic stops. Luxury high quality sound is bearable light Ice drops and cuts on off when not full can stop the sound by not adding water when ice is full or turning ice off if u don’t want to hear the machine at night. I have it in my living room with my Avalon water machine 2 great additions super excited to have these 2. Yess Ice is Great Better Than Sonic I actually can chew this ice. Gem

   Quickly makes a large zip lock full of ice and the ice doesn’t melt immediately. Good small nugget size for drinks and i have used it everyday for 1.5 months so far.

   This was a gift for my wife, and for about 13 months, was the perfect gift. It makes ice quickly and the ice is exactly what she was looking for.

   However, be warned that Frigidaire could not care any less if you have problems outside of the 365 day warranty period. After just over 365 days, the ice maker started making an extremely loud grinding noise. Louder than a crying baby, and louder than a television at reasonable volume.

   I contacted Frigidaire support, only to be told that they outsource support for this particular product from “Curtis International.” Curtis International told me point blank that they had nothing to speak to me about since the product was more than 365 days since purchase and therefore out of warranty. I’m not necessarily looking for a no questions asked replacement unit or anything, but this was not exactly the kind of customer service I’d expect for a $300+ kitchen appliance. Frigidaire especially surprises me with this response, since their name is literally on the product. It’s just not a good look, and the quality seems low with the added issue of lack of support.

   From the looks of some of these other reviews, this is a common experience unfortunately.
