After deciding to get a dedicated ice maker, I quickly realized there were countless options both in-store and online. I set a budget of under $500 and started sorting through the reviews. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a single ice maker in my price range that had consistently stellar feedback—most had a mix of great and not-so-great reviews, or very few reviews altogether.
That’s when I stumbled upon this particular ice maker. While it had a mix of reviews, something about it kept drawing me back. I’m fairly handy and planned to install it myself, so I wanted to be sure I was making the right choice—I really didn’t want to deal with the hassle of a return. I’m very happy to say I made the right decision with this unit.
The ice maker arrived securely packaged in a sturdy box with plenty of styrofoam protection. I was relieved to find no scratches, dents, or any damage. Unboxing it was a breeze, and the installation process was even easier. I connected it to a nearby sink using a push-to-connect adapter, and that was it—simple and straightforward.
After turning it on, I left it running overnight, checking in a few times to ensure there were no leaks or issues. By morning, the bin was already full of ice, which was a huge relief. While I was excited, I still had some reservations about its long-term reliability. I purchased this unit on June 6, 2024, and as of today (August 15, 2024), I’m absolutely thrilled with it. The ice maker has consistently produced ice, easily keeping up with our family’s demand.
I’ve included pictures and a short video to show how it looks installed. I am beyond pleased with this ice maker and **STRONGLY** recommend it based on my experience.

We purchased this ice maker July 11, 2023. We keep six 1 gallon bags of ice in a chest freezer. We use this machine 2 to 3 times a week to replenish the stored ice. The following are my observations.
Pros:
It makes ice.
Cons:
Extreme water waste – 5 gallons of wastewater in 3.5 hours just to get a single gallon bag of ice. Water continuously runs down the back of the machine and out the drain even after lowering the water pressure going into the machine. See video and pictures. The flow shown in the video is constant.
Poorly insulated & runs hot – This machine is an ice maker and space heater all-in-1. We keep the room temperature at 72 degrees F. We have to make ice at night because this machine dissipates a lot of heat causing the A/C to run more than it should just to keep up during the day.
Poor construction – The door is too far out on the hinge side causing a 1/8″ gap between the door seal and the machine cabinet. The door also sags causing the door to rub against the cabinet. See pictures.
The timer isn’t reality – I timed the operation multiple times and found 12 minutes is actually 18 minutes 17 seconds from the beginning to when the ice drops into the bin.
Price – There are at least two other machines sold on Icemaker.us.com that are identical to this one except with a different name badge/logo. They all have the same specs. If you’re looking at the SOTZ machine, I recommend looking at the others and buying the lowest priced one. However, I don’t recommend this machine or the others that are identical.
There are more cons such as maintenance and included hardware but above are the major ones.
