Update 8/1/21: stopped freezing after a little over a year. Still working to get parts or a fix with Whynter. Will report back when I get a response. I changed from 5 stars to 1. Makes me mad to spend so much money and expense to run the water line with its own filter system and it stops cooling. We started seeing black Teflon looking material in the cubes, smelled like burning wires and now not cool. The water is pumping. Family bought the exact same one recently and the wiring and motor are different and not exposed to freeze like my unit. Could it be that there was an issue with last year’s model?
My new refrigerator has a tiny ice maker and after a while with the counter ice maker, I had to refill and replace every year, I decided to get this one and hook it up to the water line. We put a Brita filter on the line so we will always have clean filtered ice cubes. It’s been going a few days and within hours it was full with a huge bucket of ice. It’s a little noisy but no more than the refrigerator. I love that it keeps the ice frozen, unlike the counter top ones. We installed it under the counter due to the size and it is perfect. Stainless steel so matches all the other appliances.

This is one great machine. Remember that the metal arm when up doesn’t make ice, and when down does make ice.
We had it installed by a plumber and couldn’t be happier. The condo we bought has the fridge on the other side of the kitchen from the water lines so buying a fridge with an icemaker wasn’t an option.
We also have to reface the kitchen cupboards anyway and will design the doors with custom ‘venting’, which will allow us to hide the icemaker and still have it breathing and chugging happily along behind closed doors.
Highly recommended.

A excellent ice-maker! My first unit finally died after 11 years of daily use, & I was glad to see that they are still available. It requires a dedicated water line, & there’s no fooling with trays – just one big container to catch the ice. Highly recommended.

This little ice maker is a gem. Purchased our first one 6 years ago and couldn’t be happier with it. Just purchased our second for our outdoor patio.

Unit was great while it lasted for two years. It failed. Warranty purchased stated we had to have the original packaging to send it back, but we were able to make do with our own packaging. They sent a different unit after a month that was clearly reconditioned. It functioned at about 50% capacity of the original one. We would frequently have to defrost the unit and now the unit just won’t produce ice. Compressor still works, and you can store popsicles in it, but it won’t make ice.

For the last three years, I’ve owned an almost identical ice-maker that had a different brand name. It served me well until a compressor seal began going bad. Overall, I was satisfied with the product.
This unit seems to be the same except for the power switch. The power switch on my first unit had to be manipulated by hand and was kind of tricky. The power switch on this unit is large and is too easily operated. Since I’ve owned this one, on two occasions, I have found the power was off due to someone accidentally hitting the off switch with their foot.
I’m guessing the makers of this unit must have thought they were improving the design – but they really didn’t.
Don’t get me wrong. So far, it is doing a great job of making ice. I hope it lasts at least three years.

Bought for a boat and this unit fit perfectly in the old space. Makes ice quickly with no melt.
